Planning MinisterJohn Rauhas approvedthe Part DeferredUrban Zone Development Plan Amendment (DPA), completing a major zoning change for the city that has been under way for a number of years.
Port Lincoln mayor Bruce Green said the council had consistently supportedthe DPA to rezone thelarge land holding, now owned by the Lukin family, through a number of iterations tothe final approved version.
The DPA has created two new residential zone policy areas, and an industry zone area with a fishingindustry focus, will facilitate the redevelopment of the former BHP wharf and provides for the developmentof a western link roadbetween the wharfprecinct and Windsor Avenue.
“I congratulate Dean Lukin Jnr for the vision, the faith and the commitment to fund anddeliver this very important planning change to help secure the future of Port Lincoln,” Mr Green said.
He said council staff, state government agencies and the Planning Minister should be commended for recognising the merit of the development.
“This new zoning has the potential to shape the future of our commercial fishing fleet, our on‐shore fishingindustry activity and the growth of quality residential property, representing a key milestone in thedevelopment of Port Lincoln.”
Less than 20 per centof the land at Murray Point will be developed, with the remainder to bepreserved under council ownership.
The rezoned land will also include significant areas of native vegetation retained under the new zoning.
“The ultimate development enabled here is visionary and sets Port Lincoln up for future growth andexpansion,” Mr Green said.
“Environmental qualities will be well‐managed and desirable industrial and residential propertymade available.”
