Mallee Sustainable Farming Inc is one of 69 finalists in the running for the People’s Choice Awards and Sunraysia residents can have their say on who should be the winner.

The National Landcare Awards celebrate the passion and diversity of Landcare, a grass-roots movement of farmers and community volunteers who protect and restore Australia’s land and coast.

Thousands of Landcarers and groups across Australia contribute to the productivity of agricultural lands, food and the sustainability of food and water supplies and are providing a future for generations to come.

Mallee Sustainable Farming Inc was the winner of the Australian Government Innovation in Sustainable Farm Practices Award in the 2013 SA Landcare Awards.

It was established almost two decades ago to investigate and assist farmers in collaboration with Natural Resources SA Murray-Darling Basin, CSIRO, Rural Solutions and Agribusiness.

The mallee has about 1500 dryland farming families whose farming activities included cropping and livestock.

The group delivers research and extension services for low rainfall, dryland farmers in the cropping regions of South Australia, NSW and Victoria and operates more than seven million hectares.
