BAY island residents are campaigning for a bridge to Russell Island and have more than 300 signatures on an online petition.

Principal petitioner Jo-Anna Katts said Islanderswere overlooked by government and wanted local and state funding for infrastructure.

The petition alsoclaims island residents don’t want to continue to pay an annual $88 in their rates for a Go Card.

Addressed to the premier, mayor and councilors, it also claims private investors were knocked back because local government would have to build infrastructure.

Ms Katts said calling the Weinam Creek marina area a priority was “a bandaid solution” and nothing but a revenue raiser.

“There is nothing to alleviate our parking problems in it – only more money for us to pay out,” she said.

“Itwill not remedywhat we truly need– a bridge. Where are our rate monies going, because we see very little of it being spent here?”
